Position Description

 

Overview

 

The Director of Youth Ministry and Christian Education works (an average of 20 hours a week) to help fulfill the purpose of Worden United Methodist Church, to be Prayerfully striving to be Christ like, we extend hope, love, and the message of salvation to all for the Glory of God.  Specifically this will be pursued through the planning and implementation of activities and programs for Middle School and High School youth including group building, discipleship, worship, mission, outreach, Sunday school and bible study.  The ideal candidate understands the intensity of work required to develop a youth program, is ambitious, possesses strong relational skills, is a self-starter and is passionate about helping students grow in their relationship with Christ.


Qualifications:

 

  • Passion for Christian education and genuine love for young people.
  • Maintain a high level of spiritual maturity / dedicated Christian.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate well with all age groups.
  • Above average organizational skills.
  • Above average communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit youth and adults to participate in activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan long-term.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Be present at church from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays.
  • Become certified through “Safe Gatherings” training program (available online).
  • Applicant must have a usable knowledge of Scripture - not an expert, but usable.

 

·         Must exhibit leadership characteristics outlined in I Timothy 3.

 

  • Ability to counsel, guide and, if necessary, rebuke young people.
  • Be able to teach, train and disciple youth workers
  • Musical ability to share a bonus.

 

Reports to: Pastor, Staff-Parish-Relations Team.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Administer Faith Weavers, Vacation Bible School and adult education activities.
  • Host and lead Youth Group twice per month at Worden UMC.
  • Develop and continually strengthen relationships with youth in the church and the greater Baldwin City community.
  • Develop age appropriate activities to facilitate the spiritual growth of youth including:

 

â—¦      Planning and leading regular youth meetings that include a component of intentional

 

faith development.

 

â—¦      Planning and leading periodic youth events.

 

â—¦      Organizing and leading youth mission trips.

 

â—¦      Actively encouraging youth to regularly be in worship.

 

â—¦      Organizing youth led worship services annually.

 

â—¦      Facilitate Sunday school educational programs for all ages.

 

  • Regularly communicate with youth and parents of youth regarding opportunities and activities.
  • Actively seek input and feedback from parents as well as youth.
  • Develop and implement plans for youth recruitment, development, and activities, updating yearly.
  • Keep the congregation informed of youth activities and ministry during church and monthly Administrative Council meetings.
  • Develop an annual budget for youth activities and curriculum; this budget will be timely submitted to Finance.
  • Utilize adult volunteers for the youth ministry, ensuring all training needs are met (including, but not limited to Safe Gatherings Certification).
  • Ensure that all church and denominational policies are followed for all youth activities.
  • Coordinate with the Christian Education team to ensure that educational opportunities are offered for youth.
  • Network with youth workers through the region; may attend one regional youth conference or training per year, to be approved by the Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Team and as budget allows.
  • Other duties as assigned by Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Team.

 

Salary

 

  • $15600 / year with quarterly evaluations during first year to insure equitable compensation.
