Trip Insurance Coverage
The Conference Board of Trustees and Schifman, Remley & Associates would like to clarify insurance coverage for church-sponsored travel. Travel consists of any group leaving the church for any activity away from the church premises. Activities include, but are not limited to: mission trips, youth trips, sporting events, shopping trips, sightseeing trips, etc. For answers to trip insurance questions (domestic and international, Volunteer in Mission and non-VIM), contact the conference office toll free at 877.972.9111 or in Topeka at 272.9111.
Domestic Travel
If a church-sponsored group plans to form a Volunteer In Mission (VIM) team to work domestically, the team leader must contact
Julie Pohl, Conference VIM Coordinator, with details no later than
30 days before a planned departure. A
checklist will guide applicants through the process.
If a church-sponsored group plans a trip or off-site activity within the US, US Territories, or Canada, the group must contact the Conference Office at least 3 full weeks prior to the departure date to arrange insurance coverage.
Be prepared to provide the group name, local church name, contact person/trip leader, telephone number, email address, expected participant number, trip beginning and ending dates, destination and activities planned. For a descriptive page that lists coverage prices,
CLICK HERE. This accident policy is available through the Conference office for these trips at a
base cost of $.53 per person per day.
If the trip activity involves adventure sports, snow sports or work activities, additional charges to the base cost apply as shown below:
- Adventure sports (including but not limited to: mountain climbing, rappelling, spelunking, whitewater rafting, whitewater canoeing, wind surfing, jet skiing, scuba/skin diving, rodeo participation and paintball) - $.50 + the daily base rate or $1.03 per person per day.
- Snow Sports (including but not limited to: downhill skiing, bobsledding, snowmobiling, snowboarding, tobogganing and tubing) - $.75 + the daily base rate or $1.28 per person per day.
- Work Activities (Including but not limited to: remodeling, dry walling, plastering, roofing, plumbing, brick/block laying, electrical work, concrete work and using scaffolds, ladders and power or chain saws) - $.75 + the daily base rate or $1.28 per person per day.
If you want to rent a vehicle for a church-sponsored trip within the US, US Territories, or Canada, coverage is provided within the Conference-Wide Property/Casualty Insurance Program. For a certificate evidencing this coverage for the rental agency, please contact either Carol Stevens or Sue Courtney (800.304.9852) at Schifman, Remley & Associates. Provide the name, address and fax number of the rental agency for the certificate of insurance to be issued.

International Travel
If a church-sponsored group plans to form a Volunteer In Mission (VIM) team to work in a foreign country, the team leader must contact
Julie Pohl, Conference VIM Coordinator, with details at least
90 days before planned departure. The team leader will receive a packet and instructions from Julie.
International travel insurance coverage is required for mission trips to non-domestic countries. The conference policy is extensive to meet the needs of today's global travel climate. Each trip leader or individual going to a foreign country (other than the US, US territories, or Canada) must apply for insurance coverage. Please contact either Carol Stevens or Sue Courtney (800.304.9852) at Schifman, Remley & Associates and complete the
Application/Roster form which is to be sent to them..
Send the completed application/roster to be received no later than
3 full weeks prior to the trip departure date. After a review process, the insurance company will send a packet to the team leader or individual designated.
Note: Maximum travelers for any itinerary are 12. Groups traveling to Haiti must complete the required information on page 3 of the application/roster document and submit all paperwork for insurance company approval at least 3 full weeks prior to departure. Access the
coverage summary for policy coverage specifics.
Our insurance carrier provides a 24-hour Executive Assistance Program to assist during international travel.
Camp Chippewa - Non-Summer Activities
Groups not part of the summer camping program must purchase camp accident coverage provided by the Conference office. The base cost is $.59 per person per day. If camp activities involve work activities, as defined under the domestic section above, the charge is $1.59 per person per day. This includes scheduled Camp Chippewa work days. Contact Camp Chippewa to arrange camp use and the conference office at 877-972-9111 to arrange required insurance coverage.
