Baker University Campus Ministry

Who They Are

Baker's student ministry offers various outreaches for students to grow in and strengthen their faiths. These ministries include: campus ministry, counseling, community service and outreach, church relations, weekly chapel and an invitation to become a Baker Ambassador.

The Baker Ambassadors are a group of Baker's students who travel by invitation to United Methodist churches in the Kansas East Conference to participate in worship services and talk with youth. They visit approximately ten churches a semester, serving as examples of faithful Christ-followers and making an impact on college-bound youth.

Ira DeSpain has been the University Minister at Baker since 1992. DeSpain graduated from Baker University in 1970, majoring in communication. He received his Master's of Divinity from Saint Paul School of Theology in 1973 and his Doctor of Ministry from Perkins School of Theology in 2000.
